verticle ladders on bulkheads

In almost any scale you should put the verticle ladders on flat against the bulkhead. It may look weird, but the real ladders are less than 8 inches from the bulkhead and that kind of precision is very difficult to acheive. I spent 9 years in the modern Navy. On 4 ships, including 2 Spruance class destroyers (on which the Aegis class platform was built).

ipms40049  Hello: When I do verticle ladders in 1/350 scale, I make them stand off.Regardless of others reasons, the ladder should stand off some. What I do is cut the ladder so I have "tails standing proud on both ends. I fold them over tightly and the spacing then is no more than the tip of an X-ACTO knife tip.This gives a good appearance and does not look out of scale.It also serves as a better anchor point for the ladders! hopes this helps.  tankerbuilder

Yet another advantage of 1/700 ... at that scale you really don't have to worry about things like standoff distances for ladders. Heck, you have to worry about being able to see the ladder to glue it on in the first place.
