Subfixer, TD4438, CapnMac82, docidle, steve5, Scotty T, checkmateking02, Spru-ce Goose,

Thanks for the compliments.  Building this kit was certainly a "labor of love", but I am glad I finished it and have it in my collection.

That is a masterful job, particularly for what the kit gives you.

It would be cool to find the similar Popular Science or Popular Mechanics illustration that matches this bed to make a backdrop.

I remember this kit as a kid, and being frustrated as various members of my Navy family worked on it "just helping out for a minute."  Along with much out-loud speculation on why Renwal could not have included a steam turbine or two, and a shaft back to the prop, none of which were very secret.

Ah, memories.  And this captures so many of those, and with a mastery worthy of note.

Beautiful work on a very cool submarine kit Phil.  I remember it fondly as well.  Thanks for posting.

Exceptionally fine work, Philip.  Truly a showpiece.  I had one when I was a kid, decades ago; boy, did I make a mess of it.  It's great to see what you've accomplished with it.

Beautiful work on that kit !  ToastBig SmileYes

I wanted the Renwal kit as a child but couldn't afford it.

Now that I see what you have managed to do with it, perhaps I'll purchase the recently re-released Revell cutaway sub kit.Hmm

Fellow Modelers, This is Renwal’s 1/200 scale SSBN 608 Ethan Allen U.S. Navy submarine. I built this model in 1995. It was always a dream of mine to build one of these kits up into a nice display. The fit on many of the kit parts is not very good and several of them are way out of scale. However, this is a really cool kit and I have always been fond of it. Several of the modifications I made are listed below:' >Plastic “piping” replaced with small diameter wire- >Removed section from control room deck and bulkhead- >Scratch built chairs and tables >Added photo-etched ladders/radar screen- >Missile made from “Stuka” airplane bomb- >Most of the decals came from a Revell 1/260 Polaris cutaway submarine kit- One of the things I am proudest of is the fact you see very few of these kits built up. Enjoy the photos! Phillip1
