help with color details Kreigsmarine
Posted by boatdetective on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 12:00 AM
Hey there- I have a handle on colors for basic camo schemes, but was so seeing what colors were used for details like smaller armament, antenna/radar, and the life rafts that are littered all over the place.

The Kreigsmarine didn't have a heavily codified system like the US and British. The KM did use counter shading in painting where places where shadows would fall were painted brighter shades of colors to obscure shadows. You'll have to play it by ear but you don't want things to stand out.  A gun in the foreground  should match its background.  Earlier in the war the measures used by the KM were anti-submarine/anti-surface and were meant provide a false sense of motion to an observer using a optical rangefinder. Later in the war the measures were more to defend against air attack. I have a book, I'll try and find it.
