I used Ocean Gray #2 by Tamiya on my liberty ship, diluted with 19% flat white to make the paint look aged.  There are only two colors, hull red, and ocean gray used as primary colors on those ships.  The hatches, life preservers, etc. were not ocean gray, but there is lot of reference material and pictures out there on the internet to figure out what to paint those items.

Liberty Ships were not operated by the Navy. They were administered by the United States Maritime Commission, which was a federal agency and part of the auxiliary fleet.

As usual, Trumpeter's color suggestions belong in the waste basket. Liberty ships were the same color horizontal and vertical; the undersides of the overheads are often but not always white.

A good color match is 5-O Ocean Gray but it's a commercial, not a military color and they were built in lots of different shipyards.

Model Master has a paint of that name. I think it's a little dark, but it looks pretty good.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Need to find a decent match for 5-H haze gray and whatever shade of deck gray would be used on a WW2 Liberty ship (preferably Humbrol or MM acrylics). WM has a good color for haze gray but I'm not sure if it's still available...also need a match for the deck gray. He'p me!!
