Nichimo 1/200 Yamato - What's Required to Make it R/C

I've had Nichimo's 1/200th Yamato in my stash for YEARS.  Bought it in a Tokyo Hobby Shop in '82 for what amounted to $50.  My kit has the gearbox but, if I were going to put the ship in the water as an RC boat, I wouldn't use that gearbox.  What I think I'd do is use 4 motors with direct drive to the screws and connected to two motor controllers as  port and starboard pairs.  The hull has plenty of room for batteries, too.
