Revell 1:1200 Aida review
I am doing a 1:1200 commercial theme at the moment and am building the revell commercial range to make use of a cabinet i found in the shed which fits on the wall.
I bought the aida for €8 which included the paints, glue and brush, a bargain that i could not turn my nose up on. I liked the fresh face of the kit with its dazzle of the aida line and i saw one of the ships in cobh last year. the model kit is based off a class of ship that was built in 1996 and not an actual ship but i based my model off the aida cara.
In the box: 4 Veins, three paints, glue, manuals, decals and a finely detailed hull.
The bad: In true revell tradition, the paintwork is largely incorrect. Revell provided decals for the waterline but are near impossible to fit. The color of the decals are incorrect such as the eye and water which are clearly too dark. Strangely alot of flash for such a new kit especially in delicate areas like the raked superstructure. The paint, glue and brush are rubbish.
The good: The kit is very detailed for the size which is two thirds smaller than its titanic counterpart. The decals such as the lips and eyes are very well represented and striking. Easy to assemble A nice quick project in between projects, a great reward for little effort. Details include stableizers, props, laylows, lifeboats and much more.
Aida like all 1:1200 models heavily depend on good paintwork to be effective. Instead of following the manual i did my own research by looking at aida cara at bhom & voss floating dry dock 11. the green as per instructions is actually turquoise. The dark blue waterline is actually near sky blue and no there is no red for the rudders. At the end i ended up with a very effective little model which took about four hours in all to paint, assemble and detail. I would highly recommend this one.
