San Francisco secondary armament

I am doing Trumpeter's USS San Francisco (CA-38) in Measure 21 scheme.  That uses fairly dark colors.  The painting instructions leave much to be desired in terms of colors. I have found a couple of color photos of the five inch guns, but not the 20mm and 40mm.  Looking for  pics of just those guns, I do see that the barrels and breech always seem to be a dark color, like gunmetal or other dark gray.  But the mounts seem to be light colors. I believe this may be that they are not on a dark colored ship, or the museum ship they are on is in one of the light color schemes.  Anyone know what color the mounts would be on a dark scheme like Measure 21?  Would they be in one of the colors of the basic scheme?

Usually the gun mounts are painted to match the surrounding areas. The 20mm gun is like a .50 cal in that the receiver and barrel are bare gun metal, but the 40mm is a mix of painted and bare metal.

Based on the Measure 21 scheme, I presume you are building the 1942 kit if USS San Francisco as at Guadalcanal?

Here is a link to her battle damage report, which includes photos of the damage. At that time, she had 1.1" quad gun mounts, not 40mm. There is a photo there of a damaged one. None are color though.

Now here are some B&W photos of teh same types of gun mounts on USS Pennsylvania in 1942 in Measure  21

1.1" Quads had a water cooled jacket over the barrels- they appear to be painted as does the rest of the guns, with the exception of the muzzle portion of the barrel in bare steel

and the 20mm mounts- everything except the gun itself appears painted to match the surrounding area

Heres a photo I have from some review of the kit. I have no idea when it was taken. It looks like CA-38, but its not measure 21. However theres a couple of AA cannons in the picture if that helps.
