We have had discussions on bronze rather than brass finishes for props on large ships. Finished the props on my San Francisco today, so thought I'd show my method of bronze props. After priming, I put on a coat of Testors Copper (I used a spray can for that). Then a very light semi-transparent coat of Gloss Brown with an airbrush. Then, I dry brushed a tarnish of olive drab.

There are some bronze color paints out there. Your method does look good though.

Nicely done Don. Thanks for posting the build, it is getting filed away for my own build. I have the 1942 version in my stash waiting for the GMM photo-etch. Have everything else ready on the ways.

I think the green over wash really is a good idea.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

That PE set is fantastic. The searchlight tower, cranes and catapults are jewels. Lots of VERY tiny parts, though. There are five separate small pieces of PE for each small single machine gun.
Don, I am currently working on the same San Francisco kit and using the Gold Metal PE set. I'm curious to know if you followed the instruction on the PE set to rearrange the gun deck. According to my PE set the cun deck is backwards.

Yes, I did reshape the deck with styrene, and followed the shape GMM showed. It isn't a big change, but it wasn't hard to do. I did find one picture of the prototype after some action. A lot of damage in that area but the basic shape appeared to follow GMM's instructions better than kit.
