I've been checking for PE for my 1991 version and scalehobbyist.com has a detail set that may work in backdating your kit, the pictures showen look to be very inclusive with gun mounts, catapultes, and whatnot. It appears to also include ladders, antenna array, and railing. Good luck

Check ebay for the WWII version, there are a few on there right now that don't end for a few days yet.  I got one a couple months ago for about $50-$60 or so.

I noticed the price disparity as well, it's probably a popularity thing.  Only reason I can think of anyway.

Since finding a tamiya 1945 Iowa class battleship is near impossible to find. I was wondering if there was a conversion method available to "retrofit" the modern 1991 model kits back to their original 1945 luster, guns and all. Also does anyone know why the tamiya 1991 Missouri kit is more expensive than the New Jersey? Since they are sister ships.
