Got the observation planes done and mounted.  The port one is sitting at a funny angle, so I will see if I can loosen it and remount it to the shuttle.

Or... they didn't store them up there. They were either in the hangar or on the well deck on a trolley under those catapults/ cranes etc.. I'd say they only fit one on a catapult on the up wind side during launch operations.

Your model looks fantastic.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Don,

Your San Francisco is coming along beautifully.  Thanks for clearing up the PE maker question I had earlier.  I have never used GMM before, so thanks for posting your build. It gives me a chance to see some of the differences.  I have only used Eduard PE and that was on the Revell 1/72 U-Boat a couple of years ago.  It came out okay.

Anyway, can I request an overall picture of your SF?  As I said, your build is marvelous and I hope my build, when I can actually get to it, will come out as nice.

Okay, I will try an overall shot. I had been holding off thinking I was about done- might as well wait and shoot finished shots.  But I am discovering how much I still have left.  I left off a bunch of deck fittings, so I wouldn't knock them off during major assembly, but boy, there are sure a lot of them. Plus I still need to do rigging and about half the railings. I did do one overall shot when I was shooting the planes, but I forgot to refocus and the shot is pretty bad.

Okay, have shot a couple as she now sits.

I managed to get the plane off the port shuttle, and will probably return it after mounting it better to shuttle.  If I were doing this as a waterline model I would indeed depict it in a realistic operational condition.  However, I think there is a long tradition in ship modeling of building a model on a stand in a somewhat artificial situation, i.e, all masts and spars raised but no sails bent.  Show everything at once (except sails as they obscure detail of model   :-)  ).

Don,

What did you use for the cables on the cranes? I recognize the hooks, pulleys etc from my GMM set but I was wondering what to use for the cables supporting the cranes themselves.
