Knox Class D.E. (U.S.S. Lockwood FF-1064) Question
Posted by Raymond G on Sunday, April 6, 2014 12:47 AM

Hey everyone:  I usually post over on the Aircraft page, but I have a friend who served aboard the Lockwood before, during, and after she was rammed.  I'd like to build a model for him as a way of thanking him for his service.  Are there any models, preferably in an affordable price range, out there.  I could probably do some light modifications if need be.  Any info would be appreciated, Raymond

AFV Club makes a 1:700 scale Knox-class as the USS Frank Knox.   It is currently isted as out of stock at Freetime Hobbies.   It is plastic - no photo-ech details.

Something happened to my post.   I had more options for Knox-class frigates with photos.  Check Freetime Hobbies - and look at 1:700 and 1:350 scale Frigates

It looks as if everyone is sold out.  I'm wondering if it's been discontinued.  I can't even find one of Ebay...  Hmmm...  I wonder if it'd be possible to scratch build one?  Ideas?  Raymond

Not too worried about the scale, though the one I was looking at a 1/700.  I more familiar with aircraft, but even if I could use something as a base, then scratch build form there, I think I could do it....

I just looked at web site for TOTALNAVY.  Click Modern Ship, click Knox Class .  These ships used to be called DE(s) later changed to FF.  I built one of these models for a HERO classmate of mine who was CO of USS KIRK 1087, and who rescued some 30,000 South Vietnamese during the last days of the Vietnamese war.. The model turned out quite well.
