I've recently completed the old Revell 1/72 PT-109. For all the ship models I've built, this is the first time I've done this classic kit. It has numerous molded-on details that would be replaced with individual parts in a more modern tooling, but the overall effect is pleasing. I replaced the kit's life raft on the bow with a Hasegawa 37 mm cannon; JFK and crew had equipped the PT-109 with a gun of this type covertly "requisitioned" shortly before the boat's last mission.
very nice I didn't realize how small this kit was till now, thats a 30-06 right?

I got this one in the stash.Well done.
Nice work, Paul! Very well done!
What did you use for the green paint?
I've built this a couple of times--none of which survived or looked as good as yours. Congratulations.
I thought it was a 50 caliber shell, like that would have been in belts on the twin 50s the boat carried...at least that was the idea. I've had those two shells sitting around for a while figuring I'd eventually use them in one project or another.
Great job!

I have to say I'm embarrassed I can't tell from the pic since I don't know how long the model is but my rcbs load book says the overall length of a .50 is 5.45in and when I reload for my M1 Garand it calls for a overall length of 3.34in so going by that what one is it... or whats stamped on it lol
To add to the confusion, the .50BMG is (fora ll practical purposes) a scaled up .30-06 round,
I think the model is about 13-3/8 or so if my math is close.

The model is about 13" long. The "tropical green" is an Americana brand craft paint called "evergreen," with a lighter shade (also Americana craft paint) called "avocado" sprayed for contrast. I used a brown oil wash for weathering on the deck and sides.
Sir, that's a good model ............ be proud of your work.
