Very nice work. The PE looks great and the paint job is excellent.

That's a really nice job.. Mine was plain old blue.

IMO this is the best or at least top three USN WW2 subjects as a kit.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Trumpeter 1/350 USS Quincy

This is the Trumpeter 1/350 scale USS San Francisco, although it’s painted like the USS Quincy. I used the Gold Medal Models PE set and a set of Master brass gun barrels. Colors are a mix of WEM and Testors Model Master. I have never built a 1/350 scale ship before, and I wanted to give one a try. I mostly wanted to try out a bunch of new skills with this ship for some future projects I have in mind, and the single color of the USS San Francisco just didn’t work for that purpose. I didn’t try to make any of the modifications to make it a more accurate USS Quincy. But I did learn a whole lot about building 1/350 ships. Plenty of challenges that require a lot of planning ahead, like getting all the colors on in the right order (lots of masking and re-masking!) Working with PE is still a challenge, but much better in this scale than in 1/700. I might do more of the rigging, but again, I learned that some planning ahead would make that much easier. So here are some pics: Overall, a great kit and an enjoyable build. Thanks for looking. Phil
