Ah cool. Thanks. What finally made me ask is while attaching it to my CVN-76 model I realized I had no clue as to purpose.....

What does the stern grate do on a carrier? Is for getting pushed by tugs?

Not for pushing.  The grate on the stern of US Carriers is part of a boarding dock system.

At anchorage, all small boat traffic is via the dock.   From there through a secure access portal to the quarterdeck.   This limits the access to the internals of the ship to potential bad actors.  This is much better than multiple gangways (officer & enlisted)  at different parts of the ship

Hi :

I am not sure to what you refer . Is this a construct on the stern of the newer classes ? Also , Now please take this to heart ." There is no such thing as a stupid question , Only the results of someone Not asking it " I doubt it is for being tugged though.
