I've built the Dom. It's ok, but for the time spent I'd rather do a CW Morgan or an Eagle.

Squadron online has the Dom for $ 72.00 I think.

Amazon has it for $ 57.00. Either way IMO more than it's worth.

Amazon has the Revell Bounty for $ 28.00.

I find Amazon to be a really good place to buy hobby supplies. The prices are good and the shipping is usually PDQ.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Thanks, Steve.  Sounds like either one would be an okay build.  Can't afford both, so will have to flip a coin and choose.  Also intend to order the 1:350 Flower Corvette the Squadron flyer features.

Don,

The Galion is one of the Heller reboxes that has some differences from the original, the Corona.  It then was reboxed as the Stella De Norte, and again as the Elizabethan Galleon and then finally as the Galion.  The main differences were whether it had three masts or four and the Galion has a bank of oars added.  Another difference between the kits were the transom.  I have toyed with the idea of picking one up and seeing what I could do, but I have such a backlog that I cannot bring myself to add another kit to my stash! If I built five ships or planes a year it would take me a bit over 20 years to get through them all and that is not counting any I "might pick up in the future......

The Acheron is a marketing ploy.  I believe it started life as an Occidental model and then Zvezda picked it up and called it the Acheron.  Revell had it it for the last four or so years as the Dom Fernando II e Glória.  Now it is back at Zvezda again.  It does build into a nice model though.

Hope this help,

Steve

The latest Squadron flyer has a couple of sailing kits I might be interested in, and wonder if anyone is familiar with them.

First is the Galion Espagnol in 1:200.  I have never seen this kit advertised before. Is it new, or an old one? Any comments about it?

The other is the Zvezda French frigate Acheron. I remember there was a discussion on this kit a year or two ago, but forget what all the comments were.  Was this a repop of someone else's kit?  What era of French frigate does this represent?
