Tracy,

Thanks for pointing this out. My observations were quick, out of the box, first impressions.

Photo-etch is not complete - the catwalk-edge baskets are missing. But, depending on quality of the Gallery etch (Trumpeter brass is notoriously soft) that might just mean a smaller, cheaper set for those that care.

Start an account with an online photo sharing site like photobucket. Upload them there and when you post here using rich formatting you choose the little icon that looks like a picture and then paste in the direct link from photobucket. Vwaala. Or voila. Or boom! You have a posted pic! :)

I would love to show parts pics, but I have never been able to upload pics to FSM. Any ideas?

That sounds pretty exciting, Bill.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I just received my new USS Intrepid model. I am amazed! It is everything a CV modeler could wish for. Let's start with the six sheets of photo etch parts. Unlike most ship models that include PE, this PE set looks entirely complete. Not only does it include the typical radar screens, ladders, and various propellers for the air wing, this set also includes the frameworks for bridge windows, and the safety netting around the flight deck! It also includes railing. I'm not sure, but it looks as if the wheels for fire hoses is here, too. Finally, the lattice work supporting the elevators is here. The hangar deck has some plate detail. The flight deck has all tie-down points. For those who wish to build this model as another ship in the class, all hull extensions have been molded as separate parts. The bilge keels are also separate parts. The bow seems correctly shaped. The model overall is exquisitely detailed. The only issue that I have with this kit is that Gallery Models did not follow Trumpeter's lead. All aircraft are molded in traditional gray plastic, not transparent. Also, with Gallery's impressive attention to detail, the ship's propellers could have been brass. However, the plastic parts are so finely molded that I doubt it would make a real difference. In short, I am glad that I picked this kit up at the pre-order price, but it is well worth the regular price. Bill Morrison
