LHS Score, 1/200 Aoshima Yamato
Posted by USMC6094 on Monday, August 4, 2014 1:09 PM

swung by my friends hobby shop over the weekend and came out with three airplanes, and the grand score of the trip was the old Aoshima 1/200 Yamato for the princely sum of 75 bucks..............

the kit is complete and has been started, the hull and the forward deck plates have been assembled, and even with this already done and the fixes I need to do the hull seam, I still got a schweet deal on the kit.

ONLY problem is where in the world will it go once I get it finished, it is HUGE

I know the feeling. I bought the 1/200 Missouri, and seeing such a massive model is breathtaking. I need a bigger workspace when I start building the thing.

Yeah, the Pontos set looks really nice, and only costs as much as the model does itself. Nothing like sinking $ 700 into a model. I'm not quite ready to take that step yet.

I trust you. Is the hull black ABS plastic?

Still it would be nice to see an Aoshima 1/200 Yamato. Rare bird. Nothing comes up via google search.

With Trumpeter coming out with so many 1/200 ships, I can't imagine Yamato will be far behind. I am really anxious to see the 1/200 Hood, my absolute favorite ship of all time.

Really really would like to see a 1:200 Ark Royal to go with the Hood and Bismark. I'd probably plan a retirement around that one.

How big is that thing? I know that Nichimo did a 1/200 Yamato. Perhaps those companies did some mold trading? And for $75, you have a real deal there. That is preactically the cost of shipping such a beast nowadays...

51 3/4" long by 7 3/4" at least "on paper".

Bismark: 49 3/8" long by 7".

Hood: 51 5/8" by 6 1/4"

Ark Royal: 48" by 5 3/4"

Arizona: 36 1/2" by 5 7/8"

Considering the current political situation between China and Japan, I would be absolutely stunned if Trumpeter did ANY IJN subject, especially their greatest battleship. Still, I hope somebody does a nice 1/200 Yamato someday, the Nichimo kit is seriously awful OOTB.

Ah, but does politics trump dollars? Of course, there are plenty of great subjects just begging for the 1/200 treatment. I would definitely run out and buy a 1/200 Titanic if Trumpeter would produce that. There are great ships to build that aren't warships. How about a 1/200 Lusitania, or Queen Mary?

I would do unholy things for a 1/200 RMS Queen Mary! I'd probably buy a 1/200 Titanic too, though it wouldn't be my first choice for a golden age liner.

That is one big ship in a box.  The model must be over 4' long, hope you have a place to display it.

I'll gladly take some of that ammo on the shelf to help create dispaly space ;-)

Nichimo uses an ABS plastic hull. Not styrene. Different glue is used.

I would love to see a big Normandie, one of the most beautiful ships ever built. It's nice to see a 1/700 resin version is on the way, but it deserves at least 1/350.

I have a 1/200 Titanic by Mantua.  It is wood but a beautiful kit that I am readying for radio control.  She's HUGE! and she's GORGEOUS!!!  Model Expo has it.
