Not seen the kit, but Revell bought up the old Matchbox molds a while back and have been steadily re-releasing them. Matchbox made a 1:700 scale Fletcher (round bridge) which the box art shows. The Matchbox kit was a little cruder than the Tamiya, detail softer. IIRC, the 5-inch gunhouses were actually done very well.
The Tamiya Fletcher and Cushing kits are probably the best 1:700 scale plastic Fletchers available.
I think I would defer on taking a shot on this until I had a chance to look at the kit in person
