Uboat Type llD (completed pics)

Finally found time to finish this 1/400 scale Mirage Hobby kit. Used photo etch from both Mirage and Tom's modelworks. For the camou pattern used a profile found in Action Squadron book. First airbrushed Model Master Acrylic LIGHT SEA GRAY (FS36307) and then applied the dark grey using Floquil Marine Colors OCEAN GRAY 5-0. Found this too "blue" so hand brushed overtop with Aircraft Colors Acrylic RLM 71 Dunkelgrun. Sealed it with Future, applied a black wash, wiped it and then added another light wash of brown. Sprayed a flat coat and use a very sharp pencil crayon to simulate rust streaks (various brown and orange shades). Another flat coat and then added a touch of brass paint for the propellers. I'll be doing a TypeVII next - should be easier because is twice the size!

Looks really nice. I need to do a sub.

Even at 1:400, the subs are small.

What is next on the workbench jgeratic?

Nice work-is that a huge silver platter or a little coin??

When I get my seeing eye dog maybe I'll try one of those little buggers!
