Update: Tamiya 1/72 Vosper Fast Patrol Boat Kit
Posted by pittsfieldpete on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 7:44 AM
Hello: I took the plunge & bought a sealed Tamiya 1/72 Vosper Fast Patrol Boat kit on eBay for $40. I haven't found a date on any of the kit parts or on the box or instructions (yet), but I'd say it's definitely mid-1970s vintage. But even by today's standards for high-quality kits of any type, this kit, in my opinion, could be a 2014 product. The molding quality is incredible. Right down to the tiniest nut & bolt, it's just about all there. The hull is one-piece but appears to have been molded in two colors at the same time! How is that done? The model is large; about 16" long. It comes with a motor & the associated running gear to make it "pond ready". But the really clever bit is that the large central motorized prop is easily removed & replaced with a scale display prop. It could easily be built as a radio controlled model or just as a free runner. I don't plan to use the motor, but I'm impressed with the engineering & design that completely hides any trace of a motor, batteries or switch. Only the non-scale big prop gives it away, but in the water nobody could tell. Very clever. I have no regrets that I acquired this kit. I'm sure the rivet counters could pick it apart, but I'm delighted with it. Thanks to all who provided helpful information in response to my other postings about this kit.

Post some photos when you're building it and once it is completed please. Yes IIRC, that kit does date from the 1970's.
