Help: 1/350 Trumpeter San Francisco
Posted by Dr. Hu on Saturday, November 8, 2014 4:32 PM

I need a little help. My current project is the 1/350 Trumpeter USS San Francisco. I am using the Gold Medal Models  Photo Etch set. My problem is with the searchlight platform that lies between the funnels. According to the The instructions for the Gold Medal photo etched set I should replace parts E-15, 16,17 and 18 with the wire frame phota etched tower. However...... my kit does not contain an "E" fret. It doesn't even mention and "E" fret in the contents section of the instructions. The "F" fret which has the searchlight  parts has a much more robust structure with anti aircraft guns searchlights etc. It is my belief that the parts from the kit reflect a later modification of the original construction and the photo etched set has parts for an older version of the ship. Am I wrong?

I don't have the kit or the GM set, but I think I may know what the problem is. Trumpeter makes two 1/350 San Francisco kits, one in 1942 configuration and one in 1944 configuration. It sounds like the GM set may  have been designed for the kit you don't have.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

AH HA You are correct. I just checked and my kit is the 1944 refit  and the photo etch states 1/350 Trumpeter USS San Francisco. I  can use most of the photo etch but will just have to be a little careful to use only the appropriate items.. Thanks for the assist Mr Tilley
