Revell 1/720 Admiral Hipper-class Blucher build

Alright, painting is finally finished. I've more or less given up on doing more detailwork, as there are several dozen portholes and I simply don't have the patience or capability. Deck's a custom mix, as is the grey paint. Tried to use online info and a book on the Admiral Hipper-class to get it as close as possible.

Hey if you are still trying to unstick paint lids, try holding the lid under running hot tap water for a minute or so and then carefully manipulating it with pliers. The heat should expand the metal enough to break it free plus it softens the paint a little. Works for me anyway.

It most certainly did, good lord. The big problem was that the flash was often on the masts as well. But hey, it was fun. Are war-era submarines a little less difficult?

Congrats on finishing it.  Those old Revell kits tend to have so much flash that you get a lot of practice with the x-acto knife.

Paint on the hull needs to be redone, but I need to buy more white paint first, and the wallet is quite light right now. Also, I think without exaggeration that I have broken 1/6 of all pieces and had to glue them back together. Also, I was a fool for not painting this on the sprues. Still, I'm happy that I got this thing actually assembled.

Yep. But unfortunately I have big man hands that have a tendency of breaking those tiny pieces or sending them flying.  It wasn't a bad build, but I think I got a bit over my head, and having a pair of tweezers probably could have helped immensely. Still, the kit was a Christmas present, so it's good practice for me and it wasn't like I lost a lot of money in working on it. Now, if only I can get my paint jars open...

That was a great kit back in the day. You know when we were so tiny 1/720 was like 1/360..

Finally finished construction (though I broke part of a mast and lost one of the secondary turrets), but the Testors paint refuses to come unstuck. How do you guys usually get stubborn paint open?

Yeah, I was actually thinking of using painter's tape very carefully to get the desired effect, since paining slows down build times even more. But I can't paint until I purchase some toothpicks from the store first. Way too many tiny details for my cheap art brushes to handle.

You are going to want to paint it before you glue it all together, in particular all the deck fixtures and turrets.

I've never built that model. It's smaller than I would have thought.
