EZ Line
Posted by Chrisk-k on Monday, April 20, 2015 11:11 AM

I'll soon build a U-Boat.  I've heard good things about EZ Line for suspended wires.  Is EZ Line worth ordering?  Or is it similar to flexible threads/wires sold at Hobby Lobby?

I've used it on my u-boats. Works great. Please photo your work for us!

Works great. Comes in two thicknesses. I use the thin stuff. It can also be stripped apart.

It holds knots really firmly, not always the case with monofilament line.

This 1/144 U-Boat is going to be my first ship build since I came back to modeling 3 years ago after a 20- year hiatus.  I want to do justice to this gray wolf.

The thin EZ-Line works great.

I just ordered four more spools of the stuff this morning (two fine, two heavy, both black) from the fine folks at Berkshire Junction. They're so nice (and trusting) about the ordering of their EZ Line. They send me the ordered items along with an invoice from which I pay them by check.

I've used EZ Line in the one aircraft I've built in the last few years (Accurate Miniatures Grumman F3F-1) and the last three 1/350 ships I've done (Dragon's USS Buchanan - as the Duncan, Trumpeter's 1915 HMS Dreadnought, and Revell's SMS Emden). It's great stuff!

Mike

P.S. I should add that I've never used the flexible line from Hobby Lobby to which the OP refers so I can't compare it. Mike

I use both sizes ;

  The stuff is in my opinion , just what the detail doctor ordered  . I used it on a client's Arizona for all that rigging and in two sizes she looked awesome . I was just gifted that boat so I'll probably use both sizes again .Where needed .

One of the things I really like is that unlike monofilament, it readily holds a knot.

About the only negative is that its not really dimensionally consistent, it changes size when it gets stretched, and it's not round. It has a sort of flattish shape. But those are all pretty minor things.

So if I want to use EZ-Line for making the radio antennae on 1/48 scale WWII fighter planes, which size is the better one to use, the fine or heavy?

I think oversized line, either for antennas or rigging, looks worse than undersized line.  Therefore, when I have a choice, I personally go with the thinner stuff.
