Wooden Decks
Posted by torybear on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 10:19 PM
OK, I am sold.....I am working on the Russian cruiser Varyag and just installed the Artwok deck. Darn thing looks great. This is my 1st attempt at a wooden deck.there will be more. Painting is a little trick, but not impossible . Still along way to go, but the wooden decks give another detention to a ship model.

On many ships painting is not required.  Wooden decks were generally not painted- paint lacks traction when wet.  Decks were sanded with stone blocks to remove weathering and grime frequently, so looked like bare wood.  During WW2 they painted wood decks with non-slip paint, but prewar and earlier, decks were natural wood.
