What colors should I use for U-505 in 1/72 scale?
Posted by Blackbelt2 on Sunday, July 26, 2015 12:15 PM

Any suggestions from any U-Boat builders on what colors I should use for my U-505 in 1/72 scale from Revell. I don't know if the colors suggested in the instructions are ,in fact ,correct. Also I plan on doing a cut-a-way using the CMK resin interiors for the IXC class. What color is the interior? It appears to be white but it looks more like a yellow-white and not a bright or dull white.

BlackBelt,

You might want to check out this build log

Also, here is a site you might have already found but is great for any U Boat modeler.

I built the 1/72 VII model from revell a couple of years ago and went with this paint scheme.

I have the Colorcoats paints for my U-Boat kits and fortunately they have juts come back on the market and are now available in the US. You can get them at Warship Hobbies if you take that option.

Blackbelt

If you read Martindale's articles you will see that colors varied between batches and yards, so the best method IMO is to approximate the color. The weathering will alter the shade anyway.

Bish gave you some great sites to check out.

Thank you all for all of your help. This has been some great information and resources. From what I have gathered so far, colors and patterns have changed depending on the yards and the ocean weathering has also changed everything. It looks like whatever colors I use could be in fact correct for some boat.
