I have never built a ship model before. Long time armor and plane guy but got a bug to try one. Any recommendations on a good first try kit? WWII era would be my choice. Thinking of something that would not take a huge amount of time to see if I want to stay with them. Thanks!

you got to think of scale the main 2 r 700th and 359th price and space on your shelves is important too ok i will compare for you as armor guy 700th have tons of pcs many smaller than most 72nd scale armor pcs the 350th scale small pcs are close to your 35th armor small pcs then 700th lenth of the ships go from 5 -6 in for destoryers then 8-14 for cruisers n battleships and 12-16 for a/c carriers double that for same ship in 350th scale 350 scale is much pricer too if u want a good trial ship i would say any of the 350th destroyers the are about 12 in long in 20 plus range price if u feel you can handle the tiny pcs go 700th many sell from 10-20 bucks

A destroyer or destroyer escort in the 350 scale should be easy and quick.

Really nice model.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
My vote is for the Tamiya 1/350 Fletcher. Looks good without photoetch, better with, and goes together easy.

Just built Trumpeter's 1.700 USS Missouri out of the box. Like you, it's my first ship build. I enjoyed it, and learned a bit about how the ship was laid out. I brush painted all but the part of the deck that was tan.
Thanks for your recommendations. A trip to the LHS is in order.
The Hasegawa 1/350 Yukikaze is a cool looking, nice fitting kit.
