Revell 1/180 USS Lionfish

Here is the revell 1/180 scale USS lionfish kit turned into the Uss Flasher. I ended up building a new sail from scratch since the kit one was garbage. This was a quick fun build. Probably the last spur of the moment build before I commit to 3 GB's here.

Thats a really nice build!  Very nicely done.

I suppose the name of the boat would be inappropriate these days?

Great job on a dog of a kit!  Great job on the sail!  As John Tilley has often said, " One can make a decent model out of a beef bone."  You have done precisely that!

When I look at different places to possibly buy this kit - I see a lot of 1/220 kits and yet I see/read about the 1/180 also. Are they really the same kit or?

Your guess is as good as mine. I was wondering the same thing. I know the box it came in stated it was 1/180. But I know what you mean. Ran into the same questions when I went looking for info on the kit.

I just zoomed in on some of the 1/180 kits on Ebay and some boxes read 1/220, other 1/180!!

A Gato class in 1/180 would be at about 21", and at 1/220 around 17", given a length of 312 ft.

Ya so...Revell boxes, with blue ink read both 1/180 and 1/220. The boxes with yellow ink have no scale (at least that I can see in photos) but do read 21"!

OK - got the kit today. When I look at it (Revell Lionfish) I see triple rows of limber hols, yet your Flasher version only has the single row - like that of the USS Harder I wanted to build. So...did you sand the plastic cast limber hole cats marks off to smooth surface and then creat your own single row?

Or for some reason was you kit different than the 1 I got?

That's exactly what I did. I sanded off the kits and drilled out my own.
