Airfix E boat
Posted by kab37 on Sunday, August 30, 2015 12:17 PM

Just picked up an old Airfix 1/72 scale E boat. Spue for windows/ports is missing. Anybody know where I might find them ? Going to try to illuminate the boat, so they would be nice to install.

Thanks, Kab

I built this kit quite a while ago, and IIRC the kit windows were pretty thick...if it were me I'd make my own windows out of clear acetate plastic - thinner and probably less light distortion (if you're planning on lighting the vessel). HTH

Thanks, retdfeurwehr.

That is plan "B". I'm lazy, I guess, but those little windows and ports !

I think the kit is currently out of production, so getting one from Airfix could be tricky. I think its going to be a very slim chance to get one of it.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Like Bish said good luck finding replacements for an OOP kit but again, easy to make your own using Testors Clear Parts Cement and Window Maker. The directions are on the label and very easy specially making the the round windows. This stuff dries clear as glass.

Clear acetate works best for the squared larger windows.

Hi :

   Window - maker will work for the ports .You should use EVERGREEN .010 clear sheet for the larger wheelhouse windows as I did . Glue the clear parts in place with the window -maker . It works everytime .

I did. Sofar just missing windows. Made one before, going to try lighting. Arthritis in hands makes some of this tough (and messy). Makes up to a decent model.

Kab ;

   you are right about that .I always liked it better than the " Armored Wheelhouse " type .    Plus , If you like to scratch build , she builds into a fine looking 40s era motoryacht !       T.B.
