On my Hasegawa ESSEX kit, I used Gold medal #700-7 WWII carrier set. It had most everything I wanted. It is stainless steel instead of brass, so for me, being a newby at PE, it was more forgiving and a bit tougher material. I tried a brass set first, but it was too soft and seemed to break easily. There was quite a bit of change required in the build, scratch building and modification, as the kit is of a carrier of the class, but not of ESSEX herself. No hangar deck, gun tubs in the wrong place, port side hangar bay doors all wrong. Overall though, I was very satisfied with the build.
