Doing Something Different ;

Okay ;

   I suggested not to long ago that we don't see many Ship in Trouble dios .Well , my socks got knocked off ! Everyone that got involved surprised me with the subjects and depth of the story . Now here's another one .

      Yes ; in all my years I have wondered that besides the aforementioned subject there are few Dios of a ship in port calmly loading or unloading cargo , Or a liner boarding passengers .Common  , yes , but a fact of life .

         Now being a Tanker afficionado I could do a Super - Tanker at an unloading facility nine miles out . Not much to see there . So my question . Does anyone have an interest in doing an in port Dio of any kind of ship ? ( Non-wartime activity ) going about it's business with a little punch in the dio for a laugh , an hmmmm , or a downright Wow ? I would like to see such a thing . I have such limited space I don't do Dios anymore .

 I would even like to see a Dio of say , the North Carolina ( a Museum Ship ) on a nice day with visitors on board , Or even the Hornet , Intrepid  and so on .Well you get my drift.

    Just a thought mind you .Think of the skills you would have to use , Brush the rust off of and generally stretch your skills . Are you willing ? I would like to see it if you are .     Tanker - Builder

I’ve actually started acquiring the supplies to create a build that would be in line with your suggestion.  I have the PE set, the base and some of the dio material, now I need only order the kit.  Since I do not plan on starting till December due to school I am in no rush.  What I plan on building is the U.S.S. Batfish (SS 310) as she sits today.  Since she is not too far from the house I plan on making a trip to snap some photos before I start.  It won’t be anything extravagant as it will only be in 1/700 but given how she is displayed I think it will still look interesting.

Hokey

I will be using HobbyBoss' 1/700 USS Balao (SS 285) as a starting point.  After a quick check at Squadron and finding they have them on sale for $5.27 I snagged up a couple.  Was thinking about also doing the USS Razorback (SS 394) after visiting her this summer.  It will take more work since the sail has to be redone.  But if I get the bug to build her there will be a [extra] kit at hand.

I'd like to build a 1/350 version but can't find any.

Hokey

I'd like to build a 1/350 version but can't find any.

AFV Club put out a 1/350 Gato class (1941 & 1943) as well as a Guppy IB and Guppy II and from what I have seen run for a tad over $30 when on the cheaper side.  From what I've read they have recieved decent reviews and there are some good looking builds of these kits.  I am not very knowledgable when it comes to subs so am not sure of accuracy in regards to class and types these represent.

Hmm I have a copy of that crappy old Lindberg APL ship. Maybe...

After all, the boarding ladders come premolded to the sides of the hull!

 Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
