looking for carrier kit

HAH!

The Midway class is so neglected in modeling. Hard to understand- the longest serving class of carriers in the USN. I would love to see anything up to date.

Revell sold a very nice 1/540 something Midway axial deck kit. It's not hard to find and could probably be made into a first edition Rosie. They put really good mold designers on it- a nice model.

But an angle deck? Arii in 1/800.

I'll second GM regarding the Revell kit.  You can find it on eBay; be aware that the kit was boxed as the FDR, the Coral Sea and the Midway. and pretty much in their original configuration.  If you do a full-hull model, I think you need to scratch the details below the waterline, because the ship's plans were still classified at the time.  But it can be made into a nice model.

You might have to wait for bargains, though.  I have seen the kit end up between $50 and $100 sometimes, depending on how much e-adrenaline the bidders had.  I'm waiting for one, too.

Given that the hull below the waterline was classified, Revell molded the hull to be flat on the bottom so that kids could play with it on the floor. The Iowa class kits and the Baltimore class kits were the same.

That said, these kits are readily available on eBay.  I have an article in FSM that shows how to graft the lower hull of the Revell Forrestal class onto the Midway class hull for a more realistic appearance, if not totally accurate.

Arii used to produce a 1/800 USS Midway as she appeared following her 1970's refit. The kit is closer to 1/720 and is quite nice for its small scale.

Loose Cannon produces a 1/700 Midway with axial deck that is also expensive, is waterline, but has excellent detail.

I believe that this covers the kits.

Here is an interesting conversion of one of the Revell Midway kits into an angled deck USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA 42) by kit bashing it with one of the Revell Essex class kits.
