small parts search and recovery
Posted by Dr. Hu on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 9:42 PM

Hi everybody.

I posted this in the General Forum and decided to repost it here as well. It involves the recovery of tiny parts that have flown across the room. All you need is any kind of vaccum cleaner, the solid 3 to 6 inch furniture attachment and an old  nylon stocking or a pair of pantyhose. Put the stocking over the furniture attachment, secure it to the vaccum's hose with a rubber band and attach to the vaccum. Turn it on and run the vaccum over the area  where you lost your missing part/parts. The vaccum will suck up all sorts of things and the nylon will keep anything from ending up in the vaccum itself.  Turn off the vaccum  and sort through the material on the nylon for your missing parts.

Have fun,

Doc

Yes, it really works. I've done this and it is amazing the stuff you can find, even tiny PE bits like 1/700 aircraft parts.

I apologize for the poor spelling.  Big fingers, low light and poor eyesight make for some interesting typographical errors.
