I just picked this up for a low price on eBay. Headed for the wood kit stash.

Is there much difference between this kit and the more current version?

I don't know for sure, but one bet is that the current version has laser cut frames, this one just has the paper patterns. The castings are Brittania, which is good.

My old "yellow box" solid hull NEWSBOY kit has a carved mohogany hull instead of basswood or whitewood. Much of the strip wood is missing, but the metal fittings, dowels and stuff is there. Was able to download a build instruction manual by Ben Lankford. Never saw a mahogany hull before this.
