The story of the name Nautilus is really fascinating, Wiki has a good article. Fulton's; the first successful submarine, built in 1800; Verne's of 1870, and Hubert Wilkin's attempt to reach the North Pole under the ice in 1931.

Very poetically, Skate delivered his ashes to the Pole in 1959.

Dang, I checked out Bob's other videos and it made my heart go pitter padder! Being a huge 20,000 Leagues fan (note avatar), I really have to get me one of those. 

I have a 13" built model of the Disney Nautilus and my boys bought me the Pegasus version for Christmas. I now have to save my pennies and save my dimes so that I can buy that 31" beauty. Heck, the fx kit is another $250 on top of it....... Better save the quarters too.

Nautilus Drydocks currently has two versions in production.  Both are resin kits.  The larger 31" version is hollow, cost is $450 US.  The smaller version is 16" and cost is $125 US.  and solid resin.   I'm currently working on the 31" version for radio control, and have purchased some LED's.

Timeless Hobbies (formerly Comet Miniatures) has one listed.

Recommended.  Resin, metal and clear vacuumform widows.  Nicely detailed but a little small for some modelers (9" long).  It's a tad expensive (about $61 plus shipping from England).  This is actually a resin copy of a styrene kit that Airfix had intended to issue.  

It is not a kit approved by Disney and has minor differences from the movie ship - chiefly the lack of the skiff cover aft of the dorsal fin and the instruction to paint the entire boat black.

I don't recall where I got mine for sure. Seems I orders it from some guy direct. Your photo looks like mine. 

Makes one wonder how much Masterpiece Models paid for the rights   .... or did they?

Didn't some other company offer several sizes with Disney's blessing?   The name Comet comes to mind.

I had a similar-sized one sold by JoplinFX.   All of the raker teeth were mis-cast & full of holes.    I made several attempts to fix them before this POS ended up in the round file

Reproducing the Disney boat would have cost licensing fees, even though their boat was based on a book now in the public domain. So, Pegasus did their own version that is similar, but not the Disney boat.

I prefer, and built, the Disney boat. Primarily because its what I know as The Nautilus. Personally, I think it invokes terror much more than the non-Disney design.
