Posted by ffgsailor29 on Monday, February 1, 2016 6:40 PM

Hello fellow modelers,

I am building a model of a Perry class frigate with the CC Lee 1/300 scale kit I am making my model of my ship. USS Stephen W. Groves, I do not want to use the crappy flight deck nets that are in the kit, I remade the radar, the vents and life rings I'm trying to detail this model. where can I find  some flight deck netting, and life rails to place on this if they are the 1/350th scale. I will make it work. Any help would be appreciated.

Using 1:350 scale details on a 1:300 scale subject, the detail items will appear 16.7% too small  ((300-350)/300).    Lifelines which may be waist height appear to be mid-thigh.     I try not to mix scales with differences greater than 10%,  the appearance is too visually jarring.  But the choice is up to you.

1:300 scale is a *** scale for ship models.

(edit - the nanny-bot won't let me use the old term for a child born out of wedlock.   They *** it out)

1:400 scale (next scale down from 1:350) is popular in Europe and is well supported.  The next scale up from 1:350 is 1:192/1:200.  it is becoming more popular.    There is little, if anything in between

White Ensign Models (whiteensignmodels.com) offers a set dedicated to the Perry.   They also offer a set of just flight deck netting & short rail segments (Royal Navy style - if that will suit the needs).

Also check around for detail sets to support the Academy 1:350 scale Perry.    There are several out there.
