Bridle launch is gone, too--so the "horns" o nthe bow are no longer needed. Everything now launches via nose gear bar to the shuttle. Now that all the aviation is either an F-18 variant or a E-2 Have heard both yea and nay on retrofitting older CVN.

Nice picture,I really have not kept up on the capabilities of these new carriers. Are you saying the old steam catapult for launching has been replaced ? Just on this one or did they retrofit the older CVN'S also, sounds like cool technology.

Don't know about a retrofit Tojo, but ejhammer posted a link for all the info on her.Don't know why I didn't think of it.And yea steam is out.

Heres some of your answers. I live in Grand Rapids, home of the Ford Museum and was able to view the Christening, launch and commissioning on the museum big screen. Also heard a presentation by the new Captain of the Ford and was able to meet him. I served aboard ESSEX, CVS-9. That's a world away from Ford, CVN78.

Did a quick search and didn't see any topics so I decided to post this pic, new flight deck configurations, electro-magnetic launch and almost half the typical contingent for operations.
