The Tamiya 1/350 KGV represents the ship after her aircraft handling facilities and catapult were removed and replaced by a theater and a boat deck, and the external degausing cable was relocated inboard after her 1943 refit.  The You Tube video shows the KGV early in her career, when her original dazzle camouflage was painted over with a neutral gray.  This is how she appeared during the Bismarck chase.

KGV carried different camouflages depending on the period you wish to model her.  The ship was completed in an unofficial camouflage scheme based on the WWI "dazzle" scheme. This consisted of Admiralty Dark Grey over Admiralty Light Grey. By late 1940, this scheme appeared very weatherbeaten, and she was repainted an overall medium grey, which she carried until June, 1942, at which time she was given a new, disruptive, camouflage scheme consisting of four colors, which was replaced by the Admiralty Standard Scheme Type B with the dark grey rectangular hull panel over medium grey for the rest of the ship.  This was also replaced in 1945 with a medium grey hull and light grey upperworks.

I will be happy to send pictures and charts if you contact me with your email address.

Good luck!

Tamiya King George V 1/350

Hi

So I am going to buy the Tamiya 1/350 King George V Battleship kit. I am unsure of what colours are required, in the picture the colours look sort of ugly and difficult to paint

Where as in these it looks nice and looks like the real colours used during WWII

Should I do chipping on this ship?

What colours are required for those two good looking looks? Are they an option in the manual?

What else do I need to know about this kit and battleship building?

Thank you

Tamiya please produce these models: TOG II*, Bob Semple Tank, Renault FT-17, Black Prince, 1/350 HMS Vanguard and more British stuff! If anyone works Tamiya or can pass this on, please do so!
