Very nice work and it is a very nice tribute. I vividly remember the day when the news broke. It is a haunting event.

Very true and thanks.

I have been checking my reference photos from when I built mine.  Some sure seem to show white deckhouses and bulwarks.  In fact, I have one that shows white deckhouses and cream bulwarks!  In that one the white deckhouses could not be from overexposure, since the cream definitely shows as cream.  Certainly many lakers were painted different liveries during their careers.

i noticed that in photos that  searched for.

Tanker - Builder

Imagine this !

It's winter , You are not doing what Grandma said ( Being a Kid around boats , after all ) And you are walking the ice between these behemoths put up for the winter . Now , you could do that back then too . What a sight for a kid !  T.B.

Awesome!

You are Something !

Building a model of her .True she was Cream on the upperworks .Now if you can .Right near the curve going forward toward the bow on the Starboard side, can you put close to the waterline - A small child's handprint , I might be very thankful .

You see , The Edmund Fitzgerald  ,was one of the first , of many well known working ships I would touch in life . I have touched Her , The Andrea Doria , The United States , Constellation , Enterprise - Aah , The list goes on .Three are definitlely gone though , Sad but true .The " Fitz " The  "Doria" and the " Kalakala " ( A very special , In my mind at least ) Ferry in Seattle.

The Romance of the sea and the many vessels that ply All the world's waters, For Me , started before the " Fitz " with a Lakes Steamer called the " Canadiana " As a child I rode on her, fully entranced with all the moving parts of her engine and her memorable , grand, all White and Brass appearance at the pier . A grand model of the " FITZ " indeed .

Great Job !  Tanker - Builder         P.S.  I have always wondered though .With the Lakes being known for the vicious fall and winter storms , why they didn't design better hatches and bows for these magnificent workhorses !

That is really interesting - what an experience. Thanks for sharing. Wife and I are planning a trip to the museum this summer (didn't make it there last summer when we very close!)

These lake boats have always been fascinating to me. I watched Whitefish Bay lock through at the Soo this past summer. Awesome.

The forward and aft cabin areas look like they are painted white or a light gray. They were actually painted a cream color.  From the model rr side of the LHS Denver & Rio Grand Building Cream is one recommended color.

One of my duty stations in the USCG was Base Sault Ste. Marie, MI, from 1993-1998.  My wife happened to be the Commanding Officer's secretary; I was assigned as the Base Engineer/Inductrial Manager.  During my tour, the RCN recovered the bell from the EDMUND FITZGERALD; the wreck lies in Canadian waters.  AFter the bell was restored and taken to the Whitefish Point Museum, the Museum called the Base and talked to my wife.  They were planning for the 1995 (20th Anniversary) Memorial Service and wanted to have the Group/Base CO attend.  During the converstaion, they asked my wife if there were any other Coasties who might be interesetd in attaending.  My wife volunteered me to attend.  A few more phone calls between the Museum staff and my wife and a the plans were finalized.  The Group/Base CO would toll the FITZ"s bell for CAPT McSorely; and I would toll the bell for Second Mate James Pratt. It was a very solemn memorial service with the bell.

Way too small for old man eyes and shaky hands but I love the song and the folklore. I appreciate any constructive critiques from the expert ship builders here!
