Mamoli's Return
Posted by warshipguy on Thursday, June 9, 2016 11:05 AM

Gentlemen,

I just read over on the NRG site that a Czech buyer just bought the rights to rebuild Mamoli. The buyer also claims that he wants to make improvements to the line of kits to better represent the original.  I know that there will be some groans, but I am reserving my judgement until I see the improvements.

As far as I am concerned, that is great news!  No-one else makes a wooden kit of a French 18th C. first rater, for example..  Very interesting!

Thanks for posting this.

John.

There are lots of outstanding Czech modelers; but there are lots of outstanding Italian modelers too. I'll withhold judgment until I see what the new owners do with the ex-Mamoli "Beagle." If they have any knowledge or integrity whatever, they'll take it off the market.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.

I couldn't agree more with both of you.  This is good news indeed for those of us who enjoy Mamoli kits. That said, that "Beagle" is a fraud, as is the "Blue Shadow", among some others.  However, the Rattlesnake, Flying Cloud, and HMS Victory seem okay, as do both kits in the 1/144 series.  Anyway, its a good sign that the new owner has acknowledged that there were problems with the Mamoli range that needed correcting. And, the modelers over on the NRG Model Ship World site are not shy in making the new owner aware of specific issues.
