Not sure if Popular Mechanics has an historical archive but Popular Science does and you can search for model articles there with this link:  http://www.popsci.com/archive-viewer?id=cygDAAAAMBAJ&pg=64&query=Ship+Model

Enjoy!  I searched for "ship models" with this querry.

Popular Mechanics often printed articles about a modeling project, including nice plans.  Several years ago they offered reprints of a number of old articles, including model ship projects.  I bought one of those reprints- forget which ship- but seem to have lost the plans before I got into building it :-)  Sure miss that type of article, even though I still subscribe to the magazine.

Scratch building of models was a very popular hobby back in 30s, 40s, and 50s.

Bill,
There is nothing, other than "Reprinted through Courtesy of Popular Mechanics Magazine  W.J. Wild 510 east 11 Street New York City

Try Googling the title or Popular Mechanics Magazine December 1927. That is where the first article is located. Then search later issues and you should be able to find the entire series of articles.

Jim,

I don't know of any book, but I would sure like to get the entire series of articles.  I also believe that either Scientific American or Popular Mechanics published a similar series of articles about building a model of the USS Hartford of Civil War fame.  Does your cover have an ISBN number?

I found the following book cruising the "Bay". There is no date printed in the book, only a piece on the last page that it was reprinted through the couttesy of Popular Mechanics Magazine. Doing a little research, I found that the first part of the article was printed in the Dec. 1927 issue of PMM. Subsequent parts were printed in following issues. I did not try tofind the rest of the chapters, but, I am sure they are there if one wants to find them.

Would anyone have any idea when this book with the complete set of articles was actually offered for sale? It is a neat piece of history having everything together in one book.
