Nor did I. I sanded down the hull plates, but the overall proportions and shapes of the hull seem to be correct.  I had a fun time building the Yorktown.  I did sell my Trumpeter USS Hornet, with its incorrect hull.

Merit did a great job on getting the shape of the hull correct buy they did over emphasize an incorrect hull plating. I dry sanded the hull to a smooth finish in three two hour settings in the evening when I first got the kit. Unfortunately, it has set in the box since then awaiting aftermarket add ons and more money. All in all, I did not find it to be that big of a hassle. HTH, Jon

Merit Yorktown/Enterprise Hull Fix - How Serious?

I'd love to do an Enterprise. I've also gotten in over my head on some ship projects. It certainly does appear that Merit did the hull for their Yorktown Class CVs very poorly and it will require major surgery. "Major surgery" is no doubt in the eye of the beholder - but if I can poll the folk that have actually fixed the Merit hull or know someone who has, I'd sure like to know whether we're looking at a pain or a job that would require serious time and skill.

A model boat is much cheaper than a real one and won't sink with you in it.
