Don,

Yes, there is a typo on my part. I apologize!  It should read  www.scalewarship.com. Warship is singular.

There is a website out of the U.K., www.scalewarships.com, that manufactures and sells an impressive selection of sailing ship photo-etch and other details, including the various blocks and cleats, hammock netting, channel chains, and shrouds/ratlines for the Airfix sailing ships.  There are specific sets for the HMS Victory, Cutty Sark, and Mary Rose.  They look great!  I have ordered the Victory and Mary Rose sets.

Thanks, Bill, but I could not find the web site.  Any chance there was a typo?

Don,

My pleasure!  Speaking of ratlines and shrouds, in my conversations this past year with Revell of Germany concerning new sailing ship kits, their director of production informed me that there has been a change in their 1/96 scale ships. Their machine that produced the waxed thread shrouds broke, so they have been replaced by styrene plastic parts.  I wasn't too broken-hearted because I rig my own, but there are those who liked the original shrouds as a convenience.

In 1:96, or even around 1:150 or so I will also rig full shrouds and ratlines, but in smaller scale, especially those old 1:600 kits, it gets a bit difficult.  With the smaller scales, PE shroud/ratline combos are sure nice, and I wish they were more available.  Would love to see those venders doing ship PE to do general assemblies in multiple sizes like the set I got at the Omaha nats last time I was there.

Thanks, Bill.  The photo in FSM seems to indicate styrene molded stays/ratlines, which I think are worthless, but that scale might benefit from PE ones.  Anyone know of a source with sets big enough for that scale?

Don,

I believe that it's already out. I have seen some listings for $59.99.

I see from the latest FSM that Zvezda is coming out with a 1:200 of the Kruzenshtern.  Anybody heard what they are asking for that kit?  Zvezda has come a long way in their ship kits, so looking forward to it.
