BB 34 paint
Posted by radartec on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 8:51 AM

I've finally got back to my USS New York,BB34, and the paint list calls for MR COLOR 365 and says it is Deck Blue with a cross rererance to Tamiya XF53 which is actually Neutral Grey.

I can find no color chart with MR COLOR 365.

Does anyone have the correct color for the deck of the USS NEW YORK,BB34 in 1944 ?

I'd prefer a # for Tamiya acrylics as that is what I use.                                                  Thanks

According to Snyder and Short, she was M22 in 1943 and M31a/8B in 1944. I'm not that familiar with her history so I couldn't say when she was repainted.

M22 would have 20-B Deck Blue. M31a/8B is a camouflage pattern, the decks would be 20-B Deck Blue and 5-0 Ocean Gray, although this diagram just notes 20-B. Maybe the upper horizontal surfaces are 5-0?

As far as paints, try Testors. I stick with the former WEM Colourcoats as they are spot on. I'm not too confident with trying to match to Tamiya.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Thanks,I'm going with 20-b,but will thin it some so as to show the grain of the wood deck a little more.(M31a -8b)
