With regard to the tool to which TB refers, here's a screen shot from Micro Mark:

Hi;

 It's a tool that Micro-Mark makes to take mold lines and unwanted raised lines off models . It's somewhat daunting when you first pick it up because of it's weight .  It has a 45 degree edge and it's quite heavy , the carving part is about 3/16 " x 1/4".

    It is nicely contoured to fit the hand and the grooves are not shallow , so you can't slip while using it .The edge has Never needed sharpening yet , and it's two years old as I write this , it's called the " Plastic Modelers Chisel ".

  It's about 6-1/2 " long ,The actual head measurement is 4mm. wide . The head has slightly rounded corners so it won't dig in on the corners . It is, according to their latest catalogue , $ 21.95

    As Curtis - Mathis T.V. ads , used to say . "Expensive but darned well worth it' . It's on page 57 in the middle of the right hand column . Does that help ?  T.B.     P.S.  That's the Holiday 2016 catalogue .    P.P.S. Never , use any kind of hammer or mallet on it though . Hand pressure only .

Hi Bill !

  Hey , the repairs to the short shotted areas went well . Now for the deck cleanup . I do believe the ship will shape up well . One thing I do have to do , is get rid of the Lindberg style panel lines too !

   On the superstricture parts , that's going to be a lot of " Off-Shaving " with that tool I bought from Micro-Mark . It does , with a light touch work very well .  T.B.

It is the only injection molded model of the Forrest Sherman ever manufactured, and it builds into credible models with some effort. It was also packaged as USS John Paul Jones, and USS Decatur.  TB has indicated some of the necessary modifications necessary to build this kit as a Forrest Sherman class ship.  It should look good.

Is this the ancient Revell boxing? I have been searching high and low for a actual Forrest Sherman class DD and so far the old Revell kit for the 50-60's is all I have found.

Tanker,

I recommend also cutting off the keel strip that is molded onto the lower hull, and to fill in the hawse cut outs.  The keel strip should not be there, and these ships did not have those cut outs for the anchor hawses.

Hi ;

    Listen , I may have a post wandering about , concerning finding this at a train show . Now here I will talk about the plastic in the box . Very weak but complete box , that was !

 Grey Green pieces greeted me . That's been exposed to heat and cold , Lots of it ! Now nothing was warped . It was short shotted and brittle though .

 I said in the other post I bought her to build and so I shall . Why ? Because this is one of the models I have NEVER been able to obtain in pure form .They were always Glue Bombs .

     This one was not . Now I have glued the deck on and used Spruglu in the larger spaces between the deck and hull which are a standard of old REVELL . ( SpruGlu , my name for the glue product made with snippets of plastic dumped in the glue to make a filler paste . I have five colors .White , Red , Green , Greygreen and haze grey)

    I know sounds like a little much doesn't it ? In all these years creating miniatures for clients . I have found SpruGlu to be my firm right hand when fixing flaws . I base it primarily in Testors Liquid cement !

 I will report on the next part which entertains removing all the rail areas , release pin marks , flash , and prepping for P.E. Catchya Later . T.B.
