Need help for deadeye location.
Posted by crackers on Saturday, December 31, 2016 10:05 AM

My scratch build model of the HMS PELICAN requires 3/32nd inch deadeyes. To thread these deadeyes is more than my eyesight can tolerate. To purchase my modeling supplies, I usually rely on BlueJacket Ship Crafters of Searsport, ME.  I would like to purchase britannia metal, a pewter alloy compose mostly of tin, of deadeyes with the thread lanyards imprinted on the deadeyes. However, Bluejecket Ship Crafters does not have this britannia item on its catalog. Does anyone on the Forum know where I can located the deadeyes I desire ? Inquiring minds want to know.

Bluejacket does sell them - in four sizes. Just go to the Bluejacket website ( www.bluejacketinc.com ), go to the "Fittings" section, then to the second page of deadeyes.

These are good fittings. There is one problem with rigging deadeyes like this, though: you can't control the distance between the uppers and lowers. Depending on the individual ship, that may or may not be noticeable. On a ship with two or three or four shrouds in a gang, the gap will be negligible. On a ship like the Constitution or the Victory, the aftermost deadeye/lanyard assembly in a gang will be considerably longer than the foremost one.

Youth, talent, hard work, and enthusiasm are no match for old age and treachery.
