Selling some oldies

 I tend to favor Ships with guns.
     I had seen an FSM Forum List of recommended worthwhile sailing model ships to build
(GOOD sailing ship kits by jtilley) and so far, it looks like a Great starting point. I Hope to hear about any other members Selling their kits ands recommedations on Models OOP that I should be on the lookout for.

My initial thought was to go small scale as in the older Pyro ( Life-like, Lindberg) kits. Cheap and easy to put together. Any "Fixes" that I do won't have to be so detailed at a 1/250-1/300 scale.  I plan to work my way up to maybe the American Cup Racer (Gertrud L Thebaud ?).I think My biggest challenge is to find info on Rigging , mast and spar/yard sizes and paint colors.

Since this forum entry started out on "Selling". I would like to add that Ebay works fine.  Their rules put the Buyer first but all the Sellers I have contacted are immensely helpful. I find the trick is to compare prices against the Online and Brick/mortar stores and decide if you can "scratch build any "ebay"  missing part as long as its not the Hull or deck. Unfortunately I suspect many "Buyers" are not as congenial as the members on the FSM forums. My Thoughts: Getting a Monogram 1/120 Cutty Sark ( IMAI Moulds?) for $18.44 shipped is not really luck but patience. Getting an MPC 16TH CENTURY GALLEON  (same as Airfix big Golden Hind as near as I can tell) for $16.34 ( It had no sails- no loss...) was more Knowledge of the kit origin as I could not aford almost $50.00 for the Airfix version.  I have this Forum to thank for many of my "off-brand" purches that are the same as the OEM but less then half the price.

     I started preparing for my retirement back in 2013 ( Worked 43+ years for IBM) . So, once I decide on this hobby I began buying up various kits either on sale at several well known online Hobby shops or Ebay. My colection started on some 1/400, 1/500, 1/600 Ship kits but then in 2014 I got intrested in the FSM forums and so... I now have 1/72, 1/80,1/100, 1/130, 1/150, 1/200, 1/300 etc. sailing kits.  I took advice from your forums and started small amd easy on a Pyro Barbary Pirate followed by the smalest Viking ship ever ( by Glencoe) Both got my version of scratch building for masts and simple rigging.  My currect project is a Pyro Brig of War.  I narrowed the hull a bit and it no longer looks like a bathtub toy.  I am intrested in the older Heller and Airfix kits.  I saw John Tilleys, and others, lists of kits worthwhile to build and I started a collection based a bit on this which will last me till I am 86 ( if I build 1 a month-LOL). My Thanks to you and the other contributors to the forums. Now I have something to do besides painting my 22 room house. 

    Except for some tanks and planes that I did till I got intresed in Guitars and Girls (and 1 HMS Hood that I filmed in a cement trough while blowing up and sinking it) my modeling skills are limited. I am really good on putting together IBM main frame computers though. Thanks for the interest and reply.

P.S. I am the same age as Prof John Tilley but without his Historical and  Maritime knowledge. to help correct that I have ordered a bunch of books...The Neophyte Shipmodeler's Jackstay, History of American Sailing Ships, and Rigging of Ships in the Days of Spiritsail Topmast 1600-1720.  I also expect to collect The History of the American Sailing Navy , Ship Models in Miniature, and Seventheenth Century rigging: a Handbook for Model-Makers.   I already have the "The Ship" by Bjorn Landstrom and Seamanship in the age of sail by John Harland.   And,   Someday, "The 100 gun Ship Victory ( Anatomy of a Ship) by John Mckay...(It's always good to have a goal- even if unreachable).

I did see a Aurora Wanderer Whaler that sold on Ebay on Jan 7 but it was from someone in Willow Springs, Illinois.  I never saw the IMAI Cutty Sark listing.  I would have been interested in the Cutty Sark but I believe it is the same mould as the Monogram release.  If you sell anything else, could you let us know what "name" you are under so I at least can save you as a "Favorite" seller.  

Note: This is my second post. I just retired this year about the same time as Professor John Tilley. I have greatly enjoyed the Posts and Builds of yours and the other members. You folks got me interested in Model Ships. Going to try my hand at sailing ships. I guess your "small" club of (plastic) Sailing Ship enthusiasts just increased by 1.
