aircraft carriers

Hi,  Although I have built a few ship models I'm not much of a naval expert.  I am not able to figure out what those horizontal rods are that stick out from just below flight deck level.  Can someone enlighten me.

Thanks.

What class of carriers are you referring to? A photo would certainly help.

I know they are on my Kitty Hawk (CV63) kit.  Can be either horizontal to the flight deck, or vertical.  On outer edges.  Kind of curious myself.

I believe they are radio antennas - raised (vertical) for transmission and reception, lowered (horizontal) for most flight ops.

I was looking thru FreeTimeHobbies and noticed Brandon has a 1/700 Trumpeter USS Yorktown CV5 Aircraft Carrier - PREODER - PRICE TBA and also a 1/700 CV-6 Enterprise in the Pre-order listings. Does anyone have any info on these kits?

I hope it's not another "Hornet".

I was unable to find any other info except that Academy also has a new listing for a 1/700 Enterprise, kit Number 14224 . If the fixes on the hull etc... are incorporated, this may be a great year for Aircraft Carrier modeling.  Jim.
