This model was build by my old mate Ken Duffey. You can see build-up photos here http://www.flankerman.fsnet.co.uk/modl_ekrano.htm
follow the links to see more. Ken is the man to ask about ekranoplans, but don't get him talk9ng about Flankers; you won't be able to shut him up!!

I believe that a 1/44 scale kit is available from Revell/Germany. I also believe they bought the molds from SegaModel from the Ukraine.
The Ekranoplan was designed to ferry large amounts of troops and/or cargo to a seaborne invasion FEBA. Basically, it ran like a boat until its stubby 'wings' compressed oncoming air until it 'flew' on a cusion of air; the difference between it and a standard Air Cusion Vehicle is the Ekranoplan depended on speed, where the ACV, or hovercraft, trapped high velocity inducted air under the craft with flexible bladders, or skirt.

That really is a sleek looking machine. The History Channel devoted some time to it a while back on one of their programs; I think it was "Soviet Secrets", or something like that.

How did I know you'd be the first one to reply Jeff? LOL I saw one on squadron.com but it was the later version with the prop on the vertical stabilizer. I kinda like those eight jets on the forward fuselage that the early one had. I'll keep looking.

There's a resin kit of it in 1/144 scale I think...it's been listed in the Squadron Flyers from time to time.

Does anyone know if a kit was ever made, in any form, (resin, paper, plastic, anything) of this awsome looking flying ship. It is the Soviet Ekranoplan. I tought this baby was just too cool looking to not have a kit made of it.
