dissolving superglue

Is there a product or a procedure which'll allow one to remove a brass part from plastic, without having to worry about the solvent's dissolving the plastic, too?

Tried "debonder"?

Some say freeze first.

one good thing is that it's not a weld so when you get up the nerve, snap it off.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

If saving the plastic part isn't an issue, acetone should work.

I find debonder a very useful product. I keep a bottle on hand, and have had several situations where it has saved a real crisis.  It does break the bond, and does not damage the styrene where the bond was.

The only thing it will not work as well on is fingers. If you have damaged the skin by pulling to hard, or trying to cut with a knife, before you apply the debonder, it stings and burns like crazy!  If you do want to apply it on glued fingers, do it immediately before pulling to hard, and stay away from a knife!
