Revell 1/350 SMS Dresden
Posted by shaunfletcher on Monday, June 26, 2017 11:24 PM

Hi, thought the people here might like this one. My first ship kit, built out of box except for mig rigging.

All paints AK, Mig, Vallejo. Water by Chris Flodberg's methods.

Now I have got the hang of it, next time I will get into a full detail ship build

Shaun

And the obligatory pastiche:

That looks awesome. The water is very realistic. I love seeing WW1 stuff. Dresden was WW1, right?? I think you did a great job bud.

Thanks kindly

She was indeed a WW1 cruiser.. took part and survived the Battle of the Falkland Islands, and was later hunted down and eventually scuttled.

Really outstanding, first or 100th ship build. Up there with some of the better ones I've seen here.

That was a pretty nice kit, other than some fit problems with the gun turrets.  Love the water.

I did mine in pre-war livery, it bagged me several awards.

Needs more coal smoke...Those accomodation ladders would be stowed up on the deck while underway.

Nice build.

Dude, that water is really nice, you did an awesome job on that. The cruiser is executed very well, too. Nice diorama!

Great Work!

First Ship kit?  Next time you'll go to full detail?

Excellent model, and great base.  We're looking forward to more!

Thanks for the note about the ladders, I will have a look. Its pretty dirty as it is, I guess there is always room for more muck!

Yeah the turrets don't fit at all well.. I'm also disappointed to note the detail kits for this and the Emden don't any of them include proper open turrets which is the worst thing about the whole kit I think. When I do the Emden I think scratch-built turrets are called for.

That would really be an improvement. I copied the two open guns pretty much using plastic rod, some photos of the real deal, and made the gun shields out of beer can.

if you like I could post a couple of pics.

really swell little build there.

Shaun, I think you did a really fine job on that kit.

I did the Emden a while back and think your build is certainly better than mine - albeit in different livery. I have the Dresden also and may build it one of these years Smile.

Cool find!

For such a long term and popular kit with otherwise extensive aftermarket it has been a crazy omission.
